INGREDIENTS

  • Smoked salmon cubes
  • 8 Bao buns (you can buy ready-made or make them at home)
  • Red cabbage
  • Carrots
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar or honey (optional, to balance flavours)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

PREPARATION

To prepare the bao buns, steam the buns according to the instructions on the packet or your preferred recipe. Make sure they are nice and fluffy if they are homemade. In a frying pan, heat sesame oil over medium heat and add the red cabbage and grated carrot. Stir-fry for 4-5 minutes until they start to soften, then add the soy sauce, rice vinegar and sugar or honey (if using), and cook for a further 2-3 minutes, stirring well so that the vegetables absorb the flavour of the sauce.

Adjust salt and pepper to taste and cook until the vegetables are tender but still crisp. To assemble, open the bao buns and fill them with the red cabbage and carrot mixture. Top with a few cubes of smoked salmon and, if desired, garnish with sesame seeds for a crunchy touch.

Enjoy these bao buns, which combine sweet and savoury flavours with the smokiness of salmon, creating a delicious depth. They are ideal for a light lunch or a fun dinner, balancing soft, crunchy textures with fresh, savoury flavours.
